I was a patient in need of an inguinal hernia repair. If I were asked to rate the whole experience from initial contact to discharge some six weeks after the surgery I should answer "about 95 marks out of 100.."
All contact with receptioniists, consultant, anaesthetist and nursing and ancilliary staff was excellent. The surgery appears to have been a great success. I particularly enjoyed and appreciated talking with the consultant and anaesthetist and am very grateful to them for their skilled work and bedside manner (as I am also grateful for the work of the other seen and unseen hands that helped in any way..
The exceptions were:the person who carried out the medical assessment - who seemed to lack interest iin his work, as though it was a rather boring task to be got through; and the nurse who omitted to ask if I was able to pass urine before saying I could go home.- which meant an unnecessary three hour wait in the hospital for the members of my family
who came to fetch me.
But who could ask for more than 95% from a critical old bloke? Thank you very much indeed!
