"Ward B50 and Neuro-Spinal Post Operative Unit..."

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Neurosurgery

I had suffered for about 5 years with gradually developing cervical spinal stenosis causing cord compression at 2 levels without knowing about it until an MRI via my GP revealed it.

Once I was referred to a consultant neuro-surgeon who works from QMC ( how I wish I could name that surgeon here because 'they' are awesome) it didn't take long to get to meet the NS and discuss options, the only one really was surgery.

This surgeon talked me through every single aspect of the procedure and gave me very real, albeit frightening, advice.

My expectations were very real and I had the surgery on the week starting 19th November 2018 because I had great support and advice.

Surgery was a breeze and believe me, I am a nervous patient.

The anaesthesia team were awesome, the NS and his team were even more fantastic, my surgery was a total success ( I never doubted it would be anything less).

I was moved after recovery to the NSPU and the day and night staff there are magnificent.

Nothing was a problem for them, I was warm, had loads of fluid to drink, I had to be catheterised and I had a lot of pain but the nurses there made me feel like I was a Hollywood celebrity; these girls know how to nurse even under pressure they were unstoppable and I could see every single patient on this ward was as important as the others.

They take pain control and patient comfort very seriously.

I was allowed to go home the following morning and I felt a bit sad leaving the ward really but it was to move on and allow someone else to be taken care of by this wonderful Unit and team of professionals.

Ward B50 and the NSPU if the rest of the NHS wards across the UK met the same levels as these guys, things would be very different-these guys set the benchmark.

If you're reading this because you are due surgery at QMC for neuro-spinal problems you can leave your fears and worries in the bin because believe me, this is likely to be the best place on the planet to get fixed, they have the right people in the right places doing the right things.

QMC rocks!!!
