"Urgent Care and A & E"

About: Scarborough General Hospital / Accident and emergency

Answering the above questions was difficult, as 99% of the staff and experience were excellent! I attended the Urgent Care Centre after taking a fall. The reception and the woman who interviewed me provided excellent, 5 *****, professional service and care.

My case was transferred to the A & E, which also provided excellent and professional care and treatment from the moment I stepped into the A & E, until the woman who put a sling on my arm for a fractured elbow.

Before that moment, the physician and care provider who took my blood pressure and pulse provided the highest level of patience and professionalism when I suffered pain and worry. Everyone other than the woman who put a sling on my elbow has my highest praise.

The horrible nurse who was putting a sling on my arm after my elbow was fractured. This person:

kneeled down to floor level between me and two strangers in the open area of the A & E

and said, "Drink more water" whilst looking directly at me.

I replied, "What?

In front of two strangers, this woman said, "If you add water to your alcoholic drink, you won't fall ...."

In shock, I replied,

"I fell at 10.30 in the morning when I tripped on a hole in my rented flat that has had a hole in the floor covered by carpet for 16 months, when I was in a hurry to get to a hearing appointment on my day off work!".

She did not apologise; the man next to me who was there for a herniated disc became involved in the conversation, saying that I should sue the landlord.

This woman's lack of professionalism and poor judgement left a bitter memory after an otherwise exceptionally warm, caring, and sensitive experience.

Thank you so much for taking the time to get in touch with us.

I am sorry to hear of your experience with one of our nursing staff in our Emergency Department, please accept my apologies for how this made you feel. I will be sure to pass on your feedback to the management staff of our emergency department.

I am pleased that the rest of your experience was warm, caring and that the rest of the staff you came into contact with were professional and sensitive.

I hope you are well on the way to recovery and I wish you the best
