"Worse than a waste of time"

Talking Therapies operate in isolation within different catchment areas. This means that previous experiences with Talking Therapies in another area are not available to each other.

All these do is offer CBT, you either do that or they discharge you from the service.

I have done different CBT delivery types previously and they have not worked.

The resultant effect has been to make me even more anxious and depressed.

Thank you for your feedback on our service. We would be happy to discuss these points with you in person.

In the meantime, the following information may be useful.

Talking Therapies works across the county and has team bases in Bridgwater, Taunton, Wells and Chard. All the workers in these 4 teams use the same clinical database for all their notes, so information on previous treatments is always available across the county.

We are governed by the national IAPT framework (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) which puts a great emphasis on CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) as there is a lot of evidence of how effective it is. However, we offer various other treatments, including guided self-help, counselling, webinars and groups. If previous treatments have not helped, this should always be thought about at any new assessment and we apologise if this was not the case in your experience. If your issues are appropriate to another intervention, then this should certainly be considered.

Hello,

Just to say that if you would like to get in touch, our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) can be emailed on pals@sompar.nhs.uk or 01278 432022. They will be able to put you in touch with the right people to answer your questions in person (if this would be helpful) and see if we can arrange something to help sort things out.

Kind regards, LUCY
