My husband had a lobectomy because of cancer. From the time I've entered the ward, we were welcomed, reassured, there was no rush, the admittance procedure was easy, with plenty of time for questions, the procedure was fully explained to us. Our confidence was lifted, and we both felt relaxed and happy about the forthcoming op.
The only criticism I have is we felt rushed regarding discharge. The care my husband had was exemplary pre-op and post op. I realise this is not the fault of the hospital. But maybe not so much of an abrupt discharge. If I was younger and wealthy I would open a small convalescent building close to the hospital. Where mentally and physically for a few days, patients could prepare for discharge.
