"The care my husband had was exemplary pre-op and post op"

About: Golden Jubilee National Hospital / Thoracic Surgery

(as a carer),

My husband had a lobectomy because of cancer. From the time I've entered the ward, we were welcomed, reassured, there was no rush, the admittance procedure was easy, with plenty of time for questions, the procedure was fully explained to us. Our confidence was lifted, and we both felt relaxed and happy about the forthcoming op.

The only criticism I have is we felt rushed regarding discharge. The care my husband had was exemplary pre-op and post op. I realise this is not the fault of the hospital. But maybe not so much of an abrupt discharge.
If I was younger and wealthy I would open a small convalescent building close to the hospital. Where mentally and physically for a few days, patients could prepare for discharge.

Dear andromedazc45,

Thank you for taking the time to post of Care Opinion regarding your husband's care with us. It is lovely to read that you were both welcomed and reassured at what must have been a very worrying time for you both.

I am sorry to read that you felt the discharge was rushed, as this should not have been the case. If you wish to discuss this with me further, please do not hesitate to contact me on 0141 951 5951 or feedback@gjnh.scot.nhs/uk and I would be more than happy to look into this for you.

Regards

Paula
