"Cancelled Surgery"

About: Northwick Park Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I check-in on the day of my surgery at 0730hrs. I have been told not to eat or drink anything post midnight, so I am already starving.

Then I am being made to wait for up til 1300hrs, and was told that my surgery could not take place on the day as there are no beds for me after the surgery is over for recovery.

My surgery was booked many months in advance, still the hospital could not plan a bed for me to use on the day. It is embarrassing.

Really really shameful. At 1300hrs I had not eaten or had water for over 13 hours but they didn't care - simply cancelled my surgery and rescheduled my surgery for after almost 3 months.

Update posted by MikeDelta (the patient)

Dear Anjali,

I am still waiting... if you re-read it, my surgery was cancelled after checking me in at 0730hrs they told me at 1300hrs that it cannot go forward because of NO BED available.

I have already contacted PALS, lets see what they can do. Especially when it takes them 40 days to complete investigation. However, NHS Pledge says I should be rebooked within 28 days or the Hospital has to pay for my surgery to be done privately. So pointless.
