"Our 20 week scan"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Maternity

(as a service user),

It didnt feel like an intimate event the room was a make shift room that had a taped up ceiling. We hardly caught a glimps of our new baby at the start. My partner saw more while checks were made whike I stared up at the taped up ceiling. all checks were completed.

After alot of talk we decided we would like to know the sex of our baby if it was possible to tell as its our 2nd and our daughter really wanted to know. We didnt find out with our 1st. We waited until the end expecting as some point we would be asked if we wanted to know the sex, just like we were asked with our previous pregnancy. This did not happen and upon asking we got a very abrupt answer and were told they were not allowed to spend any more time on the matter and it was not part of the checks. Told they would have a quick look which felt very under protest to be told it could be a girl.. or it could be a boy. If this person couldnt tell for deffinate im not sure saying it could be was the right thing to say, we would rather have been told that they couldnt tell us.

Scan ended and person checked they had all images then asked to have another look to get some more images and then said again will have another quick look and was no surer this time either, we understand it can be hard to tell but if you cant be sure dont say. Felt totally rushed and let down, our first time deciding we wanted to know the sex and we were greeted by someone who it seemed clearly didnt agree with telling people.
