Whilst I was on the maternity ward there was one person who made all the difference. Clare. She was so friendly, made the time to always chat to me and I just felt like I could ask her anything. With staff changeovers happening you see so many different faces and you barely remember their names, But whenever Clare was in I would know because she would always say hello, let me know when she was in until and she got things done for us. She has a great, positive energy and as new parents she gave us lots of tips and tricks that helped us on our way. She is a wonderful staff member and a real credit to the service.
When I got home from hospital I had a hard time breastfeeding. My first night home was just horrendous, I couldn’t get my baby to settle at all and I didn’t know what to do. I remember the staff saying I could call the maternity ward if I needed to and so I did. I spoke to the most amazing lady, Kat. She helped me so much, she gave me some brilliant advice, and took the time to listen to my struggles and help me. I know that the ward is very busy and I saw that the staff never got a minute to themselves but even at 4am in the morning she didn’t make me feel like a burden. She told me I could go into the ward if I needed support and just gave me the confidence boost I needed. I cannot tell you how appreciative I was, I was struggling so much but Kat got me through the nights, I wasn’t a patient so she didn’t have to, but she did and she stayed on the phone as long as I needed her. I don’t think I ever met her in person but I wish I did, she was just fantastic.
My time on the ward was very good and you really see how hard the nhs staff work. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your help and support.
