Having been diagnosed with cancer on the vocal chord in September 2018, was given a choice of radiotherapy or laser treatment, i elected for radiotherapy which was a course of 4 weeks Monday to Friday every day, which i have now finished. I had to have a mask made which fits like a glove. (not very pleasant). I told the staff that i was claustrophobic and they put me at my ease and made sure i was as comfortable as possible. I was apprehensive about the treatment, but the staff in the radiotherapy department explained what was going to happen, what side effects to expect. I was seen by the clinical nurse twice a week to check on how things were going and i was in generally good health. The dietitian gave excellent advice on what meals to have which helped greatly. All the staff in the radiotherapy department were polite, courteous, friendly and put me at my ease and helped me through a difficult time, which thanks to them did not seem to be as bad as i expected. All the staff are a credit to Southend hospital.
So from me a huge big THANK YOU.
