What I liked
I visited Percival Pott ward briefly before being transferred to ward 5b after surgery.
The hospital staff were exceptional on both wards, I was treated with respect, listened to and cared for. I was very nervous prior to my surgery and had a little weep, the nurse on PP ward gave me a cuddle and was utterly lovely and passed on my being nervous to the staff taking me to 5b.
Everything was explained fully and I was always given options and asked my opinion. I was taken to a small holding ward before I was put under anaesthetic which was very well thought out and calming, the nurse in there was also wonderful and very reassuring. Tis might sound pretentious, but the choice of colour and music in that room really did contribute toward calming me considerably.
The anaesthetist was terrific, she was professional and serious, yet able to humour me and take my mind off the operation and calm my nerves.
The staff on ward 5b are angels, I say this because the other women on my ward ranged from a Constant complainers to crazy yelling sleep walkers and the staff were patient and professional at all times.
Thank you St. Barts, after a horrific ordeal at the Hommerton I'd lost my faith in the NHS, but faith has been restored.
What could be improved
If a fellow patient is prone to sleep walking and yelling in their sleep, it might be worth if space permits moving them to a ward on their own to give the other patients on that ward the chance to sleep and not be woken up at 3 am with an old woman over you yelling about lights, doesn't help the stitches along!
"Great hospital that has restored my faith in the..."
