I am sorry to learn of your experience. I have passed your comments to the senior staff responsible for maternity care so that they are aware of your concerns, although I have been unable, from the information provided, to identify who was responsible for your care and treatment. If you are able to contact our PALS office with more information I will be happy to ensure that the circumstances are fully investigated. Our PALS office may be contacted by telephone on 020 8401 3210 or by email at ch-tr.pals@nhs.net. The office is open during the week from 9am to 4:45pm.

As communicated throughout the day, we are very sorry that your elective caesarean was delayed due to emergency cases. Our teams had been in theatre all day with emergency cases and elective work running concurrently, unfortunately, we cannot always predict what the day will bring and the clinical picture changes with regularity. We have a duty to ensure we keep all mums and babies safe and as such, sometimes that means making extremely difficult decisions. The clinical need of each lady and her baby dictates the order of our elective list – we only delay where it is clinically safe to do so. However, we appreciate that this is upsetting for you and for that we are extremely sorry.

Kind regards

Becky Board

Clinical Midwifery Manager
