I attended A&E via ambulance last weekend (4 November). I first attended the Sheffield Walk in Centre who gave me initial treatment and called the ambulance for me.
On arrival at A&E, the paramedics waited with me until they could hand me over to a nurse. I was kept waiting, but only due to more urgent cases being prioritised, as it should be. Given how busy the department was, this was nothing to complain about.
I was then taken for a blood test and an X-Ray. It took 2 hours to get the blood test results, which I think is incredible! Although I had to wait, I was well looked after and I was given some food and a drink. Staff kept checking in on me and I was never felt forgotten about.
I was given more treatment once my diagnosis came in and I was offered the choice of staying in hospital or going home. As I lived alone, the doctors were not comfortable with letting me go home, but agreed once they learned that I could stay with a friend.
Everyone who I came in to contact with made me feel like they cared about my health, including the porters and cleaners, and I was only ever kept waiting if there was a more urgent patient. The care I received was excellent and I really cant thank everyone enough.
"Excellent care"
