"Unsympathetic emergency nurse practitioner"

About: Buxton Hospital

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter attended MIU at Buxton Hospital one the morning last week after suffering chest pains during the night. We didn’t feel the situation was urgent but felt she needed to be seen by someone who could assess her and give us advice and support.

Sadly this did not happen. The emergency nurse practitioner spoke to my 20yr old daughter in a very sarcastic way, smirking and laughing at her, asking why she thought it was the right place to come, they couldn't do anything for her here, she needs to go to her doctors. The way this person spoke to my daughter was rude and inappropriate. She wanted reassurance and care. Dreadful behaviour from a nurse.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about the Minor Injuries Unit in Buxton Community Hospital. We are sorry that your experience was not satisfactory and that communication with you has been inadequate. Your comments have been taken very seriously and have been shared with the Emergency Nurse Practitioner to look into.

If you would like to speak to us further about your concerns please do not hesitate to contact our Patient Experience Team on 01773 525119 and a member of our team will be able to help you.

The outcome I would like is the nurse concerned thinks about how they talk to other patients in future. The nurse may not have been able to do a lot to help my daughter but kindness, sympathy and a caring nature would have made her visit very different.

Good morning,

I have been in touch with the Matron of Emergency Care and she will be addressing the team as a matter of urgency and is saddened that you had such a bad experience.

Please be assured, we have taken your comments and feedback very seriously.

We are looking into the issues that you have raised and will implement any actions that we identify to ensure improvements are made.

We would really like the opportunity to discuss this with you personally. If this is acceptable then please call 01773 525119 to speak to our Patient Experience Team or if you would like to talk to Matron directly we would be happy to either share her telephone number with you or if you would like to call our team we will take your details and ask Matron to call you back?

Once again, apologies for your poor experience and thank you for taking the time to let us know about your concerns.

Kind regards

Chrissy
