Writing this to give anyone peace of mind who needs it. Honestly my anxiety leading up to my surgical termination was a lot!
I have to say that my experience was a positive one and if I had known I would not have been as worried.
The consultation put me at ease straight away. The lady was lovely and I think these things shouldn’t be underestimated in these situations. I called a private clinic the same day as thought it might be better but the response was cold and I thought no way so called MS and what a pleasant surprise.
To give a balanced review there were only a couple of down sides one being on the day of my procedure the systems were down so it couldn’t go ahead. I know the things can happen but it would have been good to have a call rather then wait for us to get there. Also on the rearranged day the first person to see me told me that if I opted for general anaesthetic instead of sedation it would take 1.5-2hours recovery. I explained at my consultation that I was told it wasn’t that much different but they said this was wrong. I did feel a bit of pressure that I didn’t need to as I stuck to my decision of GA and glad I did. The recovery was not as advised and my consultation had given me the correct info.
Other then that....I went up on time and was swiftly taken into a room to change. Again the lady there was lovely and really reassured me which made such a difference. When I went into the room I was introduced to the people in there and did feel very comfortable considering. Before I knew it I was asleep and woken up in recovery in a chair about 20 minutes later. I don’t remember how I got in the chair but the girl next to me told me she saw me get into the chair myself! She also didn’t remember.
I felt surprisingly ok. Was given pain tablets, tea and biscuits and my clothing and bag was brought to me which was good. I messaged my partner to say I was awake and his reply was “what do you mean awake, when are you going in” it was that fast.
I got dressed, blood pressure taken, advice given and left feeling fine within about an hour.
Everyone in the recovery area was also lovely and helpful which makes the difference!
I did start bleeding heavily a few days later so called up and a nurse called me back within about half an hour-again great to have the reassurance.
I would recommend Buckhurst Hill for sure. If I had known how smoothly it would go and how reassured I would feel I would not have been so anxious at all!
As above a couple of things could have made the experience even better but tbh it’s mainly constructive feedback more then anything.
I really appreciated the warmth and reassurance of all the staff-from reception to discharge and all in between :)
"For peace of mind..."
