About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital

I have spent 5 days on a ward here and felt compelled to write a review as a way of expressing how grateful I am for the treatment I have received. I came here for a left mastectomy and lymph clearance with immediate skin and muscle sparing tram flap reconstruction.

There are areas of the hospital where NHS funding cuts are evident: the foyer, the food, staffing levels at the weekend, lack of variety in support stocking colours etc. But I can honestly say that I believe the hospital is being managed to provide the best and most safe care possible.

The main entrance is fun if you imagine you are going back in time, the operating theatres are space age- absolutely amazing and brand new. The views of Sheffield are magnificent. Someone is spending money in exactly the right place. The ward I was on was kept clean and tidy by a host of friendly and very busy staff. I have been fairly nervous and high maintenance but nothing has been too much trouble.

Every member of staff I have come in contact with has been kind, able and hard working. Doctors, nurses, support staff all women together so that I was never left waiting or unsure of anything during my stay. I have been comforted, encouraged, operated on, bathed, taken to the toilet, treated for minor, arguably unrelated ailments and treated with respect at every occasion.

One nurse took the time to work out my personality and offer advice on how to get through the early hours and days of my recovery. Thank you. Another nurse was firm about mobilising me and increasing my indepence on day 4 after the op. Thank you. A busy doctor treated me for aridiculously minor issue because I was anxious. Thank you. A support worker and trainee listened to me moan and made me laugh while the bathed my tired legs and feet. Thank you.

Anaesthetist made me feel safe and pain free before, during and after a long and complex operation. Thank you.

Three surgeons and goodness knows how many other staff have cleared my breast of cancer and given me a new breast which looks and feels like it has always been there. Thank you.

I now play the Sheffield Hospitals Charity lottery to support all three teaching hospitals in the city. I hope this review is helpful. Thank you!

Thank you for leaving feedback. It really will mean a great deal to the staff to know that they were able to help you feel cared for and supported during what must have been worrying and anxious time for you. They really will appreciate this and be very encouraged by it.

With thanks and all best wishes
