About: Lanarkshire Community Services / Adult Speech and Language Therapy

(as a parent/guardian),

My son was referred to speech and language after I had concerns about his speech when he was about 3 years old. I was quite worried about how this would affect him going to nursery and if teachers and peers would be able to understand him. I also witnessed how frustrated he would become when I didn’t know what he wanted or what he was trying to tell me. He was monitored for review regularly until he was around 4 when he was mature enough to sit for a period of time for speech therapy. The speech therapist identified what sounds weren’t there and what was age appropriate at that time. He then attended every week for a period of 6 weeks practicing his sounds. I can’t thank Leigh and Laura who worked with my son enough. They were both so patient with him and really tried to make the sessions fun in order to keep his concentration. My son is now 5 and has now been signed off and the difference in his speech is amazing!

Dear Kmc2013

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your experience of Speech and Language Therapy.

I am very pleased that your son made good progress with his sounds and that the sessions were fun - that is so important for children!

It can be very frustrating for children when they are unable to make themselves understood.

I will pass your kind comments on to Laura and Leigh and I hope your son goes from strength to strength.

Regards

Pauline
