"Extremely unimpressive in Eye casualty"

It has been my misfortune to have to visit eye casualty three times during the last year once for myself once with my wife and once with my daughter.

Firstly if you try and ring eye Casualty at all , never ever is it answered by a person in my experience ,but simply an answer phone to which no one ever replies to your messages !,

This alone I find absolutely disgusting as this is certainly is not the way an eye casualty department should be performing by ignoring patient calls completely.

Secondly although there are signs warning but there can be a four hour wait , That only really is acceptable when you can see all of the staff are doing their best to keep the time to a minimum.

This is also not been my experience , and listening to all the patients waiting complaining nor has it been their experience either .

Eventually when you do manage to see a doctor you are squeezed in behind a curtain with all the noise and interruption of numerous other nurses and people coming and going.

worse still when I was there with my daughter we must have had no less than eight interruptions from other nurses continually pulling back the curtain and barging in wanting to speak to the Doctor that was supposed to be concentrating on examining my daughters eyes. The whole department needs a radical shakeup in my opinion as currently it is no more than a disgraceful operation.

We are really sorry to hear about your poor experience in PCEU Eye Casualty. Eye Casualty phone triage phone can be extremely busy and we do try our best to answer all calls. We do always try to phone every patient back if they leave a message, so we are sorry if that did not happen. We also would like to apologise for the interruptions during your daughter's examination. If there are urgent queries, eg if a patient has a sight threatening condition or injury, we may interrupt the doctor for guidance. However, eight interruptions is not acceptable and the sister for PCEU will feed this back to the team to ensure patients' examinations are not interrupted wherever possible. Attending Eye Casualty can be daunting for patients and we do try and make the experience as easy as possible. We are sorry this has not been the case for you and your daughter and we will look into how this can be improved, so that this bad experience does not occur again for yourself or other patients.
