"Audiology department waiting time"

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital

Like many other sufferers I have been waiting months for a fitting appointment for hearing aids which were prescribed after a hearing test.

I understand there is a problem in recruiting audiologists and this is the reason for delay.

I believe a neighbouring trust has solved this by contracting out to a commercial firm.

Have the Portsmouth trust considered this option to solve an almost impossible situation

Hello

I was sorry to learn that you, like many others, have been waiting a long time for an appointment with the Audiology Department. Unfortunately, as you are aware, due to capacity issues within the Department we are experiencing delays in being able to see patients awaiting hearing tests/aids. A number of Audiologists have left the Trust and, although we are actively recruiting to these posts, we have so far been unsuccessful.

We would like to assure that the Trust is doing everything that we possibly can, including outsourcing to hire Locums, to try and avoid any further delays in patient care.

If you would like to get in touch with us directly please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0800 917 6039 or by email at PHT.PALS@porthosp.nhs.uk.

With best wishes

Lisa
