"Surgery at Eden ward"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / General surgery

(as the patient),

I was admitted for planned surgery on Eden ward and I can only give positive comments about my experience. I was initially told my wait for laparoscopic surgery would be between 6-9 months but within 6 weeks of my consultation,I was fortunate enough to have the procedure.

On arrival at Eden ward, I was greeted by friendly staff who booked me in. Due to the size of the waiting area family and friends can’t unfortunatly wait with you but the room is comfortable. There were lots of magazines and a telly but this wasn’t switched on at the time. I was seen quickly by the anaesthetist, surgeons and a health care, all of whom made me feel so at ease and in good hands. After the initial checks (blood pressure, samples ect), my belongings were securely locked away and I was walked down to theatre by the loveliest assistant David.

On arrival in surgery, I was incredibly anxious and the staff were aware of how anxious I was. I was greeted once again by the surgical team who could not of been more caring and reassuring, I truely felt in safe hands and this really helped ease my anxieties particularly from the aneastesia team who made me laugh and giggle when I was too worried to think that was even possible. I was awoken a few hours later in the recovery room with staff by my side, a nurse in particular who was again so caring and attentive and apart from nipping off to get various bits and pieces didn’t leave my side.

I was then transferred to the surgical lounge and was welcomed by friendly staff who settled me in, retrieved my belongings and made me a drink and snack. The staff were so attentive and I cannot praise HCA Katie enough in particular for not only making sure I was ok physically but also that I felt ok emotionally after my procedure, she was fantastic. I was able to leave several hours later. The whole experience from start to end was faultless and I truely believe the experience enabled me to respond and recover so well.
