"Maternity Services at North Mid"

About: North Middlesex Hospital / Maternity care

I would just like to say a massive thank you to the maternity and obstetric team here at North Mid whom looked after me and my baby during my first pregnancy. On the whole my experience was very positive! Whenever I had any concerns and attended triage I wasn't kept waiting and the team there were very accommodating and friendly and really put my mind at ease (excluding one midwife whom saw to me when my waters broke unexpectedly)!

The sonographers were amazing during all my scans and very professional and knowledgeable. The midwives I saw during my antenatal appointments were fantastic (excluding one or two) and the care during my labour was faultless!! After my waters broke at home when I was 38 weeks, I had to be induced after my labour never progressed 24 hours later due to infection risk for me and my baby, which meant I couldn't have the water birth I really wanted. But I have to say that the Labour ward was actually much better than I expected! Clean, private rooms with ensuite bathrooms and the midwives whom looked after me were absolutely amazing and I cannot thank them enough for keeping me and my baby safe and infection free! I will never forget the kindness and care they showed me, and although I ended up needing a ceserean (which was my worst nightmare situation for my labour) they made what should have been a traumatic experience as comfortable and stress free as possible! I'm forever grateful to them for making sure my baby was born safe and sound. The theatre team were also fantastic and my procedure was over in a flash and I was able to have that skin to skin contact with my baby asap.

The only critique I have would be the care on the post natal ward which was hit or miss and it really varied from one midwife to another, but I did get some good support with breast feeding (when I didn't feel pressured by one of the midwives there) which I'm thankful for. A few of the HCA's I encountered could also do with a brush up on their bedside manner, but the staff were mostly very friendly. And the ward was very clean! No complaints there at all!

I would also say the paediatric doctors whom checked on me and my baby were brilliant, very friendly and professional, with a genuine sense that they cared! On the whole, I can take mostly positive experiences from choosing to have my baby here, particularly the midwives (and student midwife whom was amazing!!) during my labour! Thank you all so much! Poppy is now 12 days old and thriving and doing well! We're truly grateful for the care you all provided us with!
