My pregnancy other than constant morning sickness until 18 weeks, was pretty straight forward and low risk. However, at 33 weeks I was admitted to the Fetal Health unit for monitoring after seeing the community midwife with raised blood pressure and very swollen ankles. The midwives on the FHU were fantastic and kept me updated during my time there even though they were extremely busy- they never stopped smiling! When it came to 7pm as the FHU was about to close I was taken around to the Antenatal ward to continue my care- I ended up being admitted for 5 days to stabilise my blood pressure and make sure it didn’t develop into Pre-eclampsia. On the ward I met a number of midwives, health care assistants, drs and other members of staff and each and every one of them were amazing, always smiling, always checking if I was okay and they tried to always make time for me on a full ward of pregnant women, new mums and their babies!! I was discharged home but 24 hours later I was readmitted feeling really unwell and it was confirmed I had severe pre eclampsia- I was taken straight to theatre for a c-section and my tiny baby boy was born at 33+6! The staff in maternity, theatres and NICU went above and beyond constantly- I never felt scared as I was so reassured, informed and well cared for I knew me, my husband and our new bundle were in safe hands! 12 days later and we were discharged home where the community midwives cared for us for a few weeks and they too were so supportive and caring- despite my numerous phones calls panicking!! I’m so grateful to all the maternity staff at Kettering general hospital and know when I have my next baby (I will try and behave next time) I will be just as cared for and listened to!!
