"Dislocated elbow"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as a service user),

My 2 year old daughter fell down a step and her Dad grabbed her wrist which unfortunately dislocated her elbow. He felt very worried and annoyed that he had hurt his precious wee girl.   Thanks to Nurse Practioner Craig for quickly and almost unnoticeably putting her elbow back in place. Secondly thanks for reassuring her Dad that this is a very common incident.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Shenz23,

OUCH, I bet that hurt your daughter and her dad. I am glad it went back into place so easily. Thank you so much for taking time to share this with us, I am sure it will make Nurse Practioner Craig's day.

Your husband shouldn't feel bad, it is easy to do. He was trying to help her. I probably did much worse. As a radiographer (and mum) I decided to 'watch and wait' for a couple of days when my daughter hurt her wrist aged 2 1/2. Yep, it turned out to be fractured (just a minor greenstick fracture). She still casts it up to me at age 33.

Best wishes to you all,

Eunice
