"Technical failure in the carpark"

About: University Hospital (Coventry)

The carpark is an absolute disgrace. There are temporary bollards and building site fences all over the carpark and have been for over a year.

There are paper notices stuck on every pay machine saying it is broken in one way or another. (doesn't take cards or doesn't take notes) The payment for parking is inconsistent across the hospital (blue badge is free, pay and display is pay and display and another carpark you take a ticket on entry and pay at a machine before you leave,

Come on; settle on a system and implement it.

I have been subject to MRI scans, angioplasty, my wife has been subject to CT scans, ultra sound, 2 delicate colonoscopies, an endoscopy and major colonic surgery. Presumably the theatre surgeons do not have to put up with shoddy equipment (or do they?).

The carpark is the first experience any patient gets of the hospital and this first impression is deeply concerning. Technical stuff does not work.

I recommend that you invest heavily in some appropriate technology to get the car park sorted NOW as your reputation as a hospital is going down the pan

You're welcome

Thank you for sharing your feedback on NHS Choices about University Hospital.

I was disappointed to hear about your and your wife's experiences with our car parks, and would like to apologise for this.

We are aware that car parking is a major issue for our Trust, and I would like to reassure you that it is something which we are working hard to address with our PFI partners.

While we do not manage the car parks, I will pass on your comments to the company that does, ISS.

They are in the process of introducing a consistent Automated Number Plate Recognition system across all our public car parks, which will include all-new machines, and a standard and clear payment system.

Construction work has just begun on this scheme, and we hope that it will be in use from next year.

We have also submitted a planning application to Coventry City Council for an additional car park on our site, which will mean that more spaces can be freed up for patients and visitors (it is hoped that this will also mean that the temporary fences that you refer to in your review can be removed).

I hope that this goes some way to reassuring you that we are working hard to address the issues that you have raised.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, we appreciate all comments both positive and negative, as it helps us to better understand our patients’ needs and to continually improve.
