After being a carer to my husband for 18yrs, he ended being in a care home for the last 4 1/2 years. That broke my heart, we had been married for 52 years. He suffered so much, with Diabetes, renal failure, dementia loosing both legs. In the final week of life, he made the decision to stop dialysis he could not go on and to this day I think he was thinking of me as well.
It is just 4 years since I lost him, I'm still grieving. I began to drink soon after he died. Eventually I realised I was heading for trouble. This summer 2018 I had an MOT at my doctors and she referred me to One Recovery. I am having acupuncture once a week and after one session, did not feel the urge to drink. I have now been sober for 2 months and I owe this to my care worker 'Becky'. She has been fantastic. and I feel so much in control of my life. My two sons do not know about me as I felt so ashamed, but I have 2 female friends who I can confide in.
Thank you,
"I feel so much in control of my life"
