I saw one of the consultants at the hospital about gynaecological issues, which have been part of my life for 20 years. As such, I know quite a bit about them. When going through the results of my latest scan, I had this, verbatim, from the consultant:
"Now this is your name, and this is your date of birth, and here are the results, but they're in technical language so you probably won't understand them."
Patronising and talking down to your patients is not the way to give good care. I felt fobbed off and insulted. The Foscote itself seems to be a perfectly good hospital, but this particular consultant would benefit from some sensitivity training, and from giving his patients the credit for knowing a little bit about their own illnesses.
