"Supposed to be a wonderful moment"

About: Heartlands Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I got my first baby delivered at heartlands hospital.  What was supposed to be a wonderful moment for me turned out to be a nightmare. My waters were not broken but I had severe labour pains so I got admitted.

The first midwife just when her shift was about to end rushed me into a spare room and got busy writing her notes down because all labour rooms were busy at that time - so she would just ignore me and made me feel very uncomfortable, passing judgmental comments like you are bossy you are in labour listen and do what I say. Since it was my first time I was not able to speak much at that time. Then when the second midwife took over by then my case was getting complicated already I couldn’t pee because of pressure and all so she put catheter and further more manually broke my water bag without even explaining me what’s she going to do. The staff are so rude, they pass comments and smirk at your condition rather than comforting you. I was in such a devastated state by the end that I became hopeless.

They didn’t even give me epidural or anything when I requested.

Anyway, it ended as an emergency c section when I was almost 6cm dilated. They could have waited or encouraged me rather than pushing me into worst. Even the ward I was shifted for after care was not good - midwives won’t help you. I wish there is a separate ward at hospital for who had a section as they need extra care and peace. I got into depression in aspen ward for the rude staff - wont respond to my calls or give any support.
