"Kind and helpful surgery"

About: Oakfield Surgery

I was unwell last year with whooping cough. My GP was really kind and supportive and both myself and my husband were able to speak on the telephone whenever we needed. She gave me on onward referral as my voice was affected which has led to a full recovery. I was so grateful for this as I am sure plenty of other GPs would’ve just told me to wait to see if my voice recovered but I did need specialist vocal therapy and if it had just been left I could have had permanent vocal problems. In these days when GPs are always being encouraged to try to keep referrals to a minimum it is good to know our practice is making referrals they feel are appropriate and not leaving patients to continue suffering in an attempt to get the statistical results that seem to be leading a lot of medical care at present..

As a previous NHS employee I do understand the political pressures on GPs.
