"Thank you for making my daughter better."

About: St Helier Hospital

What I liked

My daughter was on the ward of QMCH. The staff, particularly the nurses, work very hard to ensure that the children receive the best care and are supported during their stay in hospital. We are always involved in decisions about her care and staff take time to answer queries and explain procedures. We've been to many London and Surrey hospitals with our daughter and it is always a relief if we have to be admitted to come to QMCH, the nurses are very kind and supportive and when stressed about having a very sick child this makes an enormous difference. We feel that we are treated as a family not an NHS number.

The League of Friends volunteers are great and a trip to their tea shop is a fantastic treat after being on the ward. Their shop always seems to have what we need to survive.

Obviously being going home with a healthy little girl again is the best bit!

What could be improved

Car parking.

For long stay patients the children's ward can arrange a permit. There just aren't enough disabled spaces for a hospital this size and the car parking attendants have been instructed to be intolerant of disabled people parking in the main car park.

Thank you for taking the time to review the experience you and your daughter had at Queen Mary's Hospital for Children.

We're delighted to hear it went so well and we've passed your comments on to the team involved, including the nurses on the ward.

We'll also make sure the League of Friends team get to hear your feedback too. They do a great job and, as volunteers, consistently go above and beyond the call of duty in supporting the running of our hospitals.

We've flagged the comments you made about car parking with our facilities team. However, we would like to reassure you that the car parking team have not been told to be 'intolerant' with disabled people parking in the main car park.

Furthermore, I am pleased to report that a recent review of car parking across our hospitals identified the need to increase the number of car parking spaces for disabled drivers. This was agreed and the spaces are being introduced. You can read more about the review here: www.epsom-sthelier.nhs.uk/tbc.
