"Appaling care by nurses who did not give a dam..."

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske)

What I liked

Not much - bed was smelling of urine

What could be improved

Staff did not seem to care - nothing about the procedure was explained, no continuity with staff. I am diabetic and they sent the wrongt food so I did not eat for a day despite pointing the problem out.

A simple procedure they said - took ages and was very painful and they said I could not stay the night despite bleed constantly after the surgery. Was sent home and collapsed and was readmitted to a different ward - a horrrible experience that I would not put a dog through. Satff were too busy discussing parties and hardly came round to see patients they just huddled around thier station eating biscuits and going on about Christmas parties. The cleaner was more helpful; and communicative. The nurses were just seeing me and the other patients as an inconvienience. When I asked for help they told me off for ringingh the bell but I was bleeding heavily and needed help for sure. A poor old guy near me was blind and could not reach his food, no one helped him until one of the other patients got out of bed and went over to him to help - all the time the nurses were in their office laughing and joking and never answered the calls help buttons. I know see nurses in a different light, no longer the helping angels we think of.

Anything else?

Never again at this hospital- if I am ill again I will make sure I am taken to a better hospital, I;ll even pay to avoid lowen ward at Treliske again.

We are very disappointed to read your account of your hospital stay, particularly when over 90% of patients tell us they are satisfied with the care they receive. We would like the opportunity to look into your concerns in more detail. Please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 01872 2527934 or email pals.service@rcht.cornwall.nhs.uk.
