I had a CT scan in August at QEQM Hospital Margate, which identified a tumour on my right kidney, and an appointment was arranged for me to see a consultant on 11th September for advice on treatment options.
I was naturally very apprehensive beforehand, but my meeting with him was very positive and reassuring. He clearly explained the alternative options of managing my condition, including " complete removal of the mass with preservation of the kidney in the form of partial nephrectomy". In layman's terms, this is robotic surgery to remove the tumour, which I opted for - to be carried out by him.
I was admitted to K & C Hospital Clarke Ward for surgery on Monday 24th September, operated on and was discharged the following day. I was very impressed with the care, courtesy and attention that I received from everyone during my short stay. Thank you, NHS.
The operation was successful - the tumour was completely removed. Six weeks later, my recovery is almost complete, with no setbacks / side effects. I had the privilege of recently re-visiting the hospital to view the amazing robotic machinery and to again thank the team involved in my surgery.
