"Mental Health Emergency"

About: Hillingdon Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

1- I observed zero privacy in the A&E department at Hillingdon Hospital.  Doctors and nurses loudly discuss patients' most private aspects of treatment within a just few metres of where everyone else is seated. I also overheard a cheeky Dr making a little joke about my appearance to the nurse in charge, who quietly told them to shut up.

2- I was discharged being reassured that the relevant nurse (not available on weekends) would call me on the following Monday with more detailed instructions. They even double checked my phone number with me before I left. No one ever called. I tried chasing the matter by phoning the hospital but was told simply to call the crisis number, instead. I ended up in the emergency department at a different hospital (and for the same condition) only a couple of days later.
3- The Doctor who treated me said on multiple occasions over the many hours I was sitting there waiting that they would dispense medications to help get me through the weekend and until I could receive further help the following week. But suddenly this Doctor went MIA and the nurse informed me that they were done with me and that I was to go home.
4- Pumped full of strong sedatives, and barely feeling any better in terms of my original complaint, I was sent on my way home at 4 am on a Saturday. I had to sit and wait outside until the local buses re-began service. They did, as a matter of formality, ask me how I was getting myself home but turned away even before I managed to put together a sentence.
