"I shall never forget these lovely girls"

About: Specialist community health services / Cardiac rehabilitation

(as the patient),

After my NHS care and treatment, Dr. Seddon referred me to the Cardio Rehabilitation Service, which I decided to attend.

I got a call from a member of the team  and made  an appointment at Minehead Hospital for a chat and make arrangements to join the group at The Beach Hotel in the town.

Dee was the team leader I met, and from the moment I set eyes on her I knew I was in capable hands!

After an hour’s talk with her my husband and I came out of the room, and said “WOW”! After some very worrying weeks with my health, we both felt so much happier and confident all would be well, and this was entirely up to our one hour of conversation with Dee and her cheerful and confident approach to the problems I felt I had before me.

I had one “taster” session at the beginning of August, as the team were going on holiday, and couldn’t wait to get back in September for the next 8 sessions at The Beach Hotel.

There I met up with Dee again, who lead me personally through the exercises once more, with Anna leading the group. We later had the first of 8 excellent talks, which over the weeks covered and answered every topic to do with the health problems all in the group had been through. Every query was patiently answered during these talk sessions, and the knowledge of their subject was astounding – we all had the answers we were looking for,  and given in a relaxed and cheerful manner, and in as much time as it took – nothing hurried.

We were gently encouraged, during the exercise sessions, to do more if we were able, and  were carefully watched over on those that were less able. It was always fun, and I noticed a few in the group, who certainly appeared not as strong as  others,  getting stronger and happier over the weeks there – and it seemed to me to be much of what Cardio Rehab is all about.

I found it extremely helpful to chat with others in the group about our journey between our health problem and arriving at Cardio Rehab, and comparing notes on our medication, and generally jollying each other along. That would not have happened if we hadn’t attended, and I think it gave us all more confidence to know we weren’t “the only ones” that had been through a bit of a sticky patch (to put it mildly!)

I have come away from Cardio Rehab with some happy memories, and feeling much more knowledgeable about what I went through in May, and a lot more confident about how I am now, and how to address any problems that I may have in the future.

I cannot praise Dee and Anna enough.

At my age, 78, one passes through life, meeting many people, and only very few make a positive and lasting  impression on one – I shall never forget these lovely girls, and their dedication to their work, carried out with such incredible knowledge, compassion and fun. They are two very special people.

Oh, and I am joining the gym attached to the hotel next, to help me on my 5 mile walks up the hills around here, and the gym sessions were also arranged for me with much professionalism and attention to detail by Anna.

Thank you so much for leaving this lovely story, which really made my day reading it first thing!

You have captured your experience so nicely and I'm thrilled that it has been so positive for you. I'm especially pleased that you are able to continue to look forward to hill walking in your lovely town, which I'm sure is the best therapy of all.:)

Your story will be shard with the Cardiac Rehab Team and with Anna and Dee, who I know will be so touched by you taking the time to write.

Many thanks and good luck with your continued improving health - and hill walking.

Kind regards,

LUCY
