"A & E"

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital / Accident and emergency

I rang the 111 service as I was experiencing a severe migraine with left side numbness on my face, an ambulance was sent and was at my home within 10 minutes. They transferred me to the hospital and everything about my experience was amazing, hard to say amazing when I felt so poorly!!! although feeling so unwell I couldn’t believe how HARD all the nurses, doctors and HCA worked. Although so busy they made sure at every point I was comfortable, if I needed anything etc. I’ve never had to go into hospital via ambulance and never to the major part of a & e and wouldn’t like to again but all the staff are so under valued & over worked. Not once for the 10 hours I was there did one of them stand around not doing anything. There was a student nurse that did not stop ONCE, she was constantly running around yet still making people cups of tea water and always asking if anyone needed anything. Although I felt so poorly and being 22 I had some scary symptoms I was made to feel at ease and told about every test they were going to do. Yes - I saw some nurses talking abruptly to one patient who went in extremely drunk but was causing a nusance with other patients and refusing treatment but if you were rushing around not even having a toilet break with sick people all around you I’m sure that would be enough to get anyone agitated!! I will never moan about waiting times in a & e or how long I have to wait for a doctors appointment. They’re absolutely outstanding and deserve so much more credit that what they’re given!
