"Doctors are wonderful, reception staff awful"

The doctors are truly lovely and understanding people,

however every single time I've encountered one of the receptionist staff I have been either shouted at, spoken to very rudely, talked over, ignored or made to feel small. Wether its on the phone or in person, the staff at reception should not be allowed to speak to people the way they currently do and have done for a long time.

I know other people who go to the same GP and have said the same thing.

It's a massive shame as it makes the GP as a whole lose a lot of respect when people are now expected to be talked down to every time they encounter one of the horrible reception people.

Last week I went it to ask for a repeat prescription as I was told to do so on the phone (rudely) and when I took the morning off work to do so, I went to the desk and was the only one standing there being ignored whilst the two reception people where showing off and talking about their clothes and their lunch to each other. I was clearly standing there awkwardly waiting to be acknowledged. They even looked at me many times and still ignored me and didn't even give me a chance to ask for help/what I needed as they were talking so loudly in front of my face.

After finally being acknowledged, I find out later that I was also withheld information and given the wrong info. I wanted to get my prescription taken to my nominated pharmacy (they didn't even tell me where it was going to go or how to do that when I filled out the form with them). When I asked when and how I was getting it they said to just call back later, so I did.

called back and literally got screamed at, spoken over multiple times just because I asked how I get it sent to the Pharmacy so I don't have to go all the way back in. The person on the phone was basically screaming at me, saying its my fault I didn't write it on the slip I filled out (when theres no slot to even put it on the form).

This is just one occasion of many examples involving the rude, unhelpful and aggressive reception staff. It's not right for them to treat anyone this way and it cannot continue. They make my life so much harder than it needs to be, I suffer from depression and anxiety and all the people on reception make life a living hell when I walk in there.

They need to be replaced as it's obvious they've been getting away with it for far too long and enjoy feeling superior and making you feel like rubbish. I am strongly considering changing GP's which is a massive shame as my usual doctor that I see is so lovely.
