"Fantastic Service all round"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Accident & emergency Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Children's Ward

(as a parent/guardian),

My son broke his wrist at the after school club. I picked him up and knew right away it was serious so took him to ED. Despite there being a 2 hour wait we were seen very quickly and my son had an x ray to confirm the break. He was admitted to the children’s ward for surgery the following day.

I was very anxious as my son is type one diabetic and on an insulin pump but everyone that I dealt with was so professional that my anxieties were relived somewhat. My son had surgery the following morning and I was able to go to the anaesthetic room to remove his insulin pump and again in recovery to reattach it.   Being able to retain some control avoid my son going on a sliding scale was a big deal for me.

I would like to thank the ED Staff, Mandy from the Pead Diabetes Team who made a care plan to manage my sons diabetes that I felt happy with, Maggie the staff nurse overnight who despite being very busy was kind and professional and gave us toast at 2. 30am as my sons would be fasting from 3am, the surgeon who I can’t remember your name and every single staff nurse, HA, Volenteer, Dr and Domestic that we came into contact with and both my son and I had a really good experience at FVRH and are grateful for our NHS.

Hi Happy901

Thank you for taking the time to feedback to us about your experience of our services here at Forth Valley. I was glad to hear that staff supported you through what must have been a very worrying time......As a parent myself I can appreciate how hard it must be to watch your child going through something like that.

I will certainly pass on your kind words to the Team and would like to wish your son a speedy recovery.

Kind Regards

Jude

Dear Happy901

Many thanks for your lovely feedback. Like Jude, it is great to hear that your son received such good care for both his fracture and his diabetes. I will ensure the staff in Children's Ward see your posting.

It is also reassuring to hear that the kindness and professionalism of the staff helped allay your fears and anxieties as a mum and that a plan of care was put in place especially around his diabetes. Going along to theatre would have been quite a daunting experience for both of you!

I hope your son continues to recover well and has fun showing off his plaster cast when he is back at school!

With best wishes

Gail
