After visiting the acute care centre at Hammersmith with a very distressed partner with acute upper abdominal pain and breathing problems . ( Tuesday 23.00) We were advised to drive straight to Charing Cross
A & E dept rather than wait for an ambulance. Upon arrival I was surprised and dismayed to discover that it now resembles a building site with no car parking . The only sign
I could see was for Ambulances only. I wrongly, in my panic assumed the entrance must now be in the main hospital and had to do an illegal left hand turn to get there. Again I couldn’t see any signs re A& E but luckily found a porter who redirected back to where I came from. This time I stopped in the Ambulance bay and am OBLIGATED to a very Kind Porter who spotted our distress and took my partner in a wheelchair to A & E via the ambulance entrance. I was lucky to be able to park on the road opposite and still had difficultly finding the Public entrance .
I have to say we were then looked after very well .
I appreciate that working in a building site is far from ideal but the lack or unclear signage and directions very much added to a very distressful night.
"A & E Acess - Building Site - Unclear signage."
