"Hospital food needs to be better for patients"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital (Paisley)

(as the patient),

I have been in the RAH in Paisley for three weeks now and have to say that the food at meal times is disgusting not good choices and days when i didn't get any food as there was no food left not even any sandwiches on the ward given i am a diabetic patient also i had to have crisps and chocolate for my lunch as there was no food left.

Its a disgrace that they don't have food that is fit for human consumption its dry cold and unacceptable to patients who don't get asked there preferences or choices at meal times and told by nursing staff you get what is given to you

The food in this hospital needs to be reviewed as the menu at present is not fit for purpose and choices are always the same on week 1 as on week 2

Dear Waterloo

I am disappointed to read about your experience of our food whilst in hospital. This is not the standard we would expect and I apologise for this. Food is an important part of your recovery especially during a lengthy stay. If you wish you can ask the ward staff to contact the Catering Department who will be happy to meet with you to discuss the issues. Alternatively, you can email me at Nicole.McInally@ggc.scot.nhs.uk with your personal details and I can arrange for the Catering Staff to contact you.

Best wishes

Nicole

Dear Waterloo

I’m sorry to hear about your poor experience with hospital food in the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

We have a menu which has a number of choices on it at each mealtime – these include soup and sandwiches, filled baked potatoes as well as hot meals and desserts. I’m sorry to hear the menu has not been offered to you and we will liaise with our nursing colleagues to rectify this.

There are provisions on the ward including cereal, bread and biscuits as well as hot and cold drinks for patients to have at any time of the day or night – please just ask the nursing team.

It’s disappointing to hear about the quality of the food you have been given. None of our meals should be served cold or dried out –as a result of this feedback we will be discussing food service training with our catering teams across NHSGGC to ensure that this does not happen to anyone.

Kind Regards

Kate Murray

One point i would like to raise during my stay which was in ward 18 in RAH some of the food at lunchtime was finished and the whole week there was not one sandwich available at night time given that i am diabetic i was told that ggc are cutting the amount of sandwiches given to patients and that is why there was none on the ward the whole week

Dear Waterloo

I hope you found it useful to have a chat with our Catering Manager. I would like to reassure you that we are not cutting the amount of sandwiches available to our patients, and even though sandwiches are not on the menu in the evening, they should still be available to order.

Kind Regards

Kate Murray
