I went in to labour on the 15th August 2018 with my first child. After arriving at the Sanctuary birth unit I was shown to my own private room with lots of birthday equipment and other facilities. The staff were fantastic and ran me a bath in a private room and were on hand when I needed anything but not overbearing which was perfect. I was put in a private room with my partner to stay overnight and was given space and privacy while my labour was advancing.
I was moved down to the labour ward on the 16th August 2018 and was given another private room to have an epidural. My midwife for the day was brilliant and was fantastic at putting my partner and I at ease. She was also firm when it came to my health and safety, ensuring she was kind but firm with what I needed to do. When she finished her shift she wished us good luck.
The next midwife to take over our care was also lovely and very efficient at getting a senior consultancy team in to monitor our daughter when her heart rate began dropping. The team were brilliant and when it was decided that I needed to be rushed in to surgery for an emergency c-section with 10 mins notice, they were professional, reassuring and I could tell committed to doing everything they could.
My partner and I were both terrified and the staff were brilliant at calming our nerves. Our daughter was born perfectly healthy thanks to this team and I have no lasting issues. I cannot thank them enough for the care given to myself and my family.
I was taken to the maternity ward and stayed for 2 days where I received around the clock assistance for myself and my baby when needed as I couldn’t walk straight away following the operation. The midwifes were quick to come when called at all hours and were helpful with advice and support when required.
All in all, I cannot thank the City Hospital staff enough for the top quality care and support I received when giving birth to my daughter. We will forever be grateful for the service received.
