"Poor discharge at Rotherham General Hospital"

About: Rotherham Hospital

(as the patient),

Best bits - I felt the overall treatment was good.

Worst bits - I did not think the meals were very good and I felt there was a poor discharge, once it was known I was going home that morning my bed was taken and I had to sit in a chair for approx. 7 hours waiting for pharmacy.

What should change: I think drugs should be ordered in time for discharge to avoid waiting around feeling like a spare part.

Dear full750, thank you for your posting on Patients Opinion. We appreciate patient feedback and are pleased to note that your overall treatment at Rotherham Hospital was good. Your comments around the food we provide and the time it takes between discharge and receiving your take home drugs has been forwarded to the respective Service Managers, and when I have a response I will come back to you.

With best wishes,

Grace

Dear full750,

I have now heard from our Pharmacy Manager, who has had an opportunity to look into your concerns around the time it took between being discharged and receiving your take home drugs.

We have in place a turnaround time of 2 hours, from the Pharmacy Department having been notified by the ward that you are to be discharged, to medication being available. We are concerned that you had a much longer wait. You do not say on which ward/date this happened and it is difficult for us to give a more full response. To enable us to look into this on your behalf, we will need more information. If you would like to contact our Pharmacy Manager by email: adele.brear@rothgen.nhs.uk, she will do everything possible to look into this for you.

With regard to your comment around improving hospital food. Our Catering Manager has confirmed that we always try to provide good quality food for our patients. Any comments we receive whilst you are in hospital, or once your get home, are always welcome and acted upon. If you would like to contact our Catering Department on 01709 304296, with any suggestions or ideas, this would be most welcome and considered.

I do hope this response goes some way to explaining that we do try to provide a quality care and support for patients using our services and appreciate your feedback.

With best wishes,

Grace
