"Excellent staff!"

About: Southmead Hospital / Gynaecology

I had my first laparoscopy done yesterday (23/10/18) I was very nervous, Anxious and scared to hell...The two nurses who were on the ward were run off their feet bless em..But they treated each woman on the ward with kindness and respect and had time for each of us no matter how much they had to do-I had two nurses, both deserve medals..They were patient and calm, made me feel very relaxed. Same as all the staff, the doctor came and spoke to me before the surgery and explained everything and made sure I understood, he was very patient with the questions I had, not once did I feel as though I was being rushed (even though I no they are on a tight schedule) Even when I went down into theatre..The team who put my line in and put me to sleep, had me laughing and chatting, I can't even remember going to sleep, next thing I no I'm waking up in recovery, which again was met by a lovely nurse..Once taken back to the ward, I was asked how I was and would I like toast and tea.(They made it within five minutes, again even though run ragged) within half an hour my surgeon came and explained what they had found and how it all went and what the next steps were going to be. I went down to theatre at 9.00am and was home by 1pm-Not once did I feel like I had to rush or do anything fast, they let me go at my own pace! I hope that when I go back and if I do end up having to have more surgery I get put back on that ward as they made a very scary, anxiety ridden day a little calmer for me.

Dear Nebula

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback.

I was very pleased to hear all the staff you encountered during your visit treated you with kindness and respect, at what clearly is a worrying time for any patient.

I’m also pleased to hear that you were kept fully informed of what was happening, and you did not feel rushed at any point.

I will ensure your feedback is sent to the department in question and that the staff are made aware, as I am sure they would be very pleased to receive your kind comments.

I do hope you are recovering well, with best wishes.

Troy Crompton
