"Care was excellent"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire University Hospital Hairmyres

(as a service user),

I attended my GP (Dr T M Bonnes & Partners) about an ongoing problem with my skin that was not resolving with antibiotics over a number of weeks, and I had started to feel unwell over the weekend. At my GP appointment she referred me to Hairmyers and sent me up there and then, at half three in the afternoon.

Following on from reporting to reception, a nurse came and got me within 10 minutes. He explained everything he was going to do and took some bloods.

Within 5 minutes of that a very pleasant student nurse introduced herself and took me to a room for a cardiogram. And then within another 15 minutes I was sitting down with a doctor. Now that’s impressive. Following the consultation the doctor decided I should be admitted. I had to wait around 90 minutes before there was space in the ward but was sent to ward 2 where again the whole team were excellent. I spent the night getting various blood pressure checks etc. The next morning I met the cleaner, who was a good laugh. The lady came round with some porridge and once that was done the doctor and here team appeared and carried out another examination. A course of action was determined, more tests done and I was free to go. Just had to wait and see the results of the tests.

Anyway from start to finish everyone who I came into contact with at Hairmyers, from the receptionist at A&E all the way through the nurses, doctors, auxiliary’s etc were very pleasent and polite and helpful. And it all happened in the space of 24 hours. I don’t know if that is down to personal pride in their work or if it is a culture that is being nurtured within the institution but either way it’s a big thank you from me.

Dear Slim

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience and give such detailed feedback. I am pleased to read that staff were helpful and polite and that you felt you received excellent care. You have mentioned various team members and I will ensure that your comments are shared with them all.

The hospital does promote a culture of patient centred care, compassion and team work. However as you say it is individual staff that ensure this is delivered on a daily basis. I value and reflect on all feedback that we receive both positive and negative. Your comments make me very proud of staff and highlight the need for team work in all areas.

Thank you again for your kind words. I hope that you are recovering well and that your ongoing condition settles.

Best wishes

Lise
