"My friend's drink was spiked"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Accident & Emergency Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a friend),

We were in a nightclub in Edinburgh and after a stranger bought my friend a drink she began to act very very unusually. We figured given the circumstances (timing with creepy guy buying her drink, violent and unlikely behaviour, considering she hadn’t drank that much) that she was spiked and needed medical attention.

We finally got her home and phoned for an ambulance. After the third call the ambulance finally arrived just over an hour later. The paramedics were very unsupportive, saying she was probably just drunk despite the clear evidence this isn’t normal behaviour for one or two drinks (or even most people don’t act like that after ten). They also told her to “stop acting like an idiot” even though she was clearly in a very very unstable way.

At the hospital the doctor then brushed this off as ‘just being drunk’ and didn’t take any drug tests to even determine the cause. The police came to our home and tried to ask her what happened to her even though she couldn’t remember her name or speak coherently at all. The police never thought to question me even though I was there before and after the alleged spiking and could even identify the man we are confident did this.

We are upset about the lack of interest in care giving by all these departments. I believe they saw us as silly drunk teenage girls and didn’t believe what we were saying. They brushed us off despite having a confident idea my friend was drugged and didn’t even question us about the evidence we have to support this.
