Firstly let me say I have had a lot of hospital visits over the last 20-30 years virtually all private at the Duchy hospital which I cannot fault or in the military (that's different!)
Friday I had an appointment for the removal of my catheter after having a prostatectomy, this operation was done privately in Bristol but the TWOC (trial without catheter) had to be done at Treliske.
The difference was obvious in that the building had not got the thousands spent on it that private hospital do but I was really well looked after. The team looking after me were brilliant, for some people this sort of thing is embarrassing and not nice but I lost those inhibitions years ago, even so the nurse couldn't have made me feel any more at ease, was attentive and caring and made sure everything was OK with me not just the job she had to do. I couldn't fault anything with the staff and praise them for working as hard as they do and making me feel comfortable about everything. I am convinced that if all staff and ancillaries in the NHS all over the UK really cared about the patients they would get better quicker and save the NHS money.
