"The water birth we hoped for."

About: Dewsbury & District Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I want to send a very big thank you to the staff at Dewsbury Midwife led Birth Centre. Prior to our birth we were welcomed to visit and make ourselves familiar with the facility. Same request to Pinderfields was ignored. That small kindness by Dewsbury staff, helped us to make the best possible decision regarding the location for our birth.

I had the most wonderful birth experience there. The staff were so caring and attentive, before, during and after the birth. The midwife made me feel at ease and in control and the facilities with big birth pool in the delivery room and a beautiful family recovery room were absolutely excellent. We had the water birth we hoped for and our beautiful healthy baby boy was delivered in a most relaxed environment.

Sadly though, that was just pure luck that we ended up there. Dewsbury Birth Centre is so severely underadvertised, expectant mums would not even know to consider it. Also what is absolutely criminal is that this wonderful facility would be closed at moments notice when Pinderfields gets busy and midwifes get pulled from Dewsbury centre to a great big, impersonal, airport style delivery factory.

Bringing new life into this world is a beautiful occasion and every mum and baby deserves the best start.

It's in your power to make it happen!

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your recent experience and, congratulations on the birth of your baby boy.

I will pass on your lovely comments to all of the staff in the Birth Centre as they will be thrilled to know what a positive impact they had on your overall experience.

It is equally important that they are made aware of your concerns and I am sorry to read that your request to visit the maternity unit at Pinderfields was ignored.

Thank you again and I wish you and new family all the best for the future.

Kind regards

Clare Blackburn
