"Late for my appointment"

About: Walker Medical Group

I have had a medical issue for a few weeks now and have had two prescriptions of antibiotics. I was told that if the second prescription didn’t work I might have to be referred to the ear, nose and throut clinic. I phoned to see if I could speak to a particular doctor and was told she wasn’t in and a doctor could phone me, I explained my problem and was booked into a appointment for 4.40 on Thursday 18th October. I unfortunately got stuck in traffic because of a accident. I phoned and spoke to someone on reception who said if I was later than ten minutes after my appointment time it would be up to the doctor if they would see me. I was unfortunately 15 minutes late and on arriving at reception I explained that I had spoken to someone about this but I was told because my appointment was twenty minutes ago I couldn’t see a doctor. I tried to ask if I could wait or if they could ask the doctor if she would see me and I was just told no and she shrugged her shoulders. I understand how busy the doctors are, and I never complain. Even though on my last visit I waited over 30 minutes past my appointment time. I left the surgery in tears and very angry at my treatment and lack of care by the receptionist.

We have discussed your comment in Practice and first of all would like to apologise for the way this situation was handled on the day.

In the future we will make sure that if a patient cannot be seen when they are late a telephone consultation will be arranged with a clinician for that day for assessment of your condition and further appropriate treatment.

Once again sorry and thank you for bringing this issue to our attention.
