"A&E experience"

About: Yeovil District Hospital / Accident and emergency

This is the first time I have accessed the A&E department at YDH, I have previously had very good experiences with the outpatients service unfortunately the same can't be said for A&E. We waited a long time to be seen and when we were I felt like the junior doctor who saw to me had already made up her mind about what was wrong. I had no bloods or urine taken during my visit and it was suggested to me that I go to my GP in the morning to have this carried out. When I questioned this I was told that specific blood tests for inflammation were not able to be carried out in A&E I know this is not true as I have had this done before. I was told I would get a second opinion after I expressed my anxiety about a potential reoccurring condition, then the same doctor returned and told me i wasn't going to get a second opinion and that she was going to go ahead with her original suggested care plan. I know A&E is a busy understaffed service but I did not feel i received the best care possible. I saw my GP who felt that the suggested care plan was not the best in line with my symptoms and after paying for the prescriptions at A&A these are now wasted. Additionally the doctor treating me left the treatment bay curtain open whilst I was sat in my underwear, there seemed to be no regard for my privacy.
