We have had an appalling experience on this ward. Every single day we dreaded going to see our father who has limited time left with us. The staff were not welcoming at all and it felt as though they were simply there to give medication.
Nursing is so much more than this, it requires understanding not only of the patients needs but of the families needs, it requires empathy and knowledge and it requires a need to understand that patients are not just numbers in a bed they are someone’s father, husband, grandad, brother and much more.
A bad situation made much worse by staff who should have been making it better. I sincerely hope there are improvements on this ward because if I knew then what I know now I would have refused to let my father be admitted here.
