(as a parent/guardian),

Staff were all lovely and helpful to myself and my son. We were referred via optician and not told at that point that we would have us to a four hour wait.. This part really needs better communication as seemed to be an issue with more people than ourselves. All staff we encountered however were kind and caring, including medical photography. We would like to say a special thanks to the specialist nurse Carla, she is knowledgeable,   had a very approachable and kind manner with a sense of humour to relax my child. This type of approach to nursing makes all the difference to patients and we were so pleased to have had the opportunity to talk to her. (Thank you to the nurse who arranged this when she realised I had a few questions to ask, again very responsive nursing)

Thanks very much for taking the time to provide the feedback above. I'm so glad that the team were able to make you and your son feel so at ease and well cared for. I'll be sure to pass this on to them as I know they'll be delighted to know they had such a positive impact.


The Eye Casualty service that we operate is similar to attending an Emergency Department in that you may have to wait up to four hours to be seen and treated. When the clinic staff accept a referral from a community optometrist (I.e. your optician) they usually ask the optometrist to inform the patient that they should expect to wait up to this time. I'm really sorry that this communication process seems to have broken down in your experience. I'll ask the team to make sure that they continue to give this reminder.
