"This should have been done at the GP practice"

About: General practices in Greater Glasgow & Clyde Inverclyde Royal Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as a parent/guardian),

My son attended GP with tonsilitis and given antibiotics . 5 days later he felt his throat wasnt getting any better, he couldn't swallow properly and it looked worse .

Phoned GP surgery for another appt , after speaking to reception twice I was refused an appt and advised that they wouldn't see him until antibiotics had been completed and if I was unhappy with this then to attend A/E.. which I feel was unacceptable as this was neither an accident or emergency ..I am grateful to the staff at IRH for looking at his throat and reassuring me that it was probably a viral infection and to keep a close eye on it . ( This should have been done at the GP practice )

Dear Poliana

Thank you for your post on Care Opinion.

As GP's are independent contractors, I would suggest that you contact the Practice Manager who can respond to the issues you have raised. If you don’t feel comfortable contacting the Practice Manager directly, I can forward your post on your behalf. I would be grateful if you could email me with the name of your GP surgery. My email address is Nicole.McInally@ggc.scot.nhs.uk

I hope that your son is recovering well.

Kind Regards

Nicole

Dear Poliana,

Thanks for sharing your recent experience. I was sorry to learn that you have been disappointed with the lack of GP appointments and that has necessitated you to bring your son to attend A&E. I see Nicole has responded separately to you about this.

I am pleased to read that the staff in A&E managed to reassure you and I hope your son is on the road to recovery. I will share your praise to the staff.

Many thanks again,

Jacqueline
