"Superb"

About: Royal Orthopaedic Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

Our son has just been discharged after over 5 years of ongoing treatment at ROH, which comprised of regular appointments and 3 separate surgeries.

His/our experience there was nothing short of superb.

The Receptionists are always polite, professional and helpful.

Their new automated check-in system works well, alleviating the queues, so it's easy to speak to someone when dealing with other issues.

Over the years we must have visited the hospital somewhere in the region of 30 times, and although the car park can be busy, we never failed to find a spot day or night.

The hospital comprises new and old blocks, which can be confusing to navigate, but there is always someone who is more than happy to help.

The hospital is clean, with an airy, efficient atmosphere.

Our son's surgeries took place whilst he was still classed as a child - he turned 18 after the last one - so his recuperation took place on Ward 11.

The nurses on there are just super.

They get it that a child can be scared, upset, in pain, wary, etc and treat them with the utmost care and respect.

They equally get it that as parents, we are struggling too.

There really is nothing worse than knowing that your child is suffering, so I would like to thank them for all of their support for us as well.

On Ward 11 there is a 'common room' I think you would call it, which has been provided and funded by the Teenage Cancer Trust.

48 hours after excrutiating surgery, we managed to wheel our son into this room, which is designed specifically with young people in mind, and it's the first time we had seen him smile for a week!

There are games and consoles, a massive TV, a pool table, a drum kit!! and just so many things that are of emotional value to young people.

It truly lifted his spirits and helped him immensely with what can be seen as the dullness of a painful hospital stay.

We donate to them at every opportunity now, because his smile was priceless.

His consultant and the Registrars who we saw during this time were all highly knowledgable and quite simply experts in their field.

We were never told what to do, but always advised and given the opportunity to ask questions before deciding on the best course of action.

We had complete honesty from them at all times helping us make informed choices.

I cannot thank the staff at ROH enough.

They are simply superb.

Our son has made a full recovery following his final surgery now, and we look forward to a positive and healthy future.

Thank you for your kind words and I am so glad your son is doing well.

I will ensure that the relevant teams see your feedback.

We hope not to have to see you soon in the best possible way!

Kind Regards
